It’s the end of 2024! Which recipes make it to Top 6 this year?
2024 was a year filled with highs and lows. It began with an unforgettable trip to Japan. We explored the quieter southern cities of Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Yufuin, and Beppu, soaking in their relaxed charm. Our highlight was no doubt our first onsen experience. The environment was peaceful and we felt rejuvenated.
But soon after returning home, life took an unexpected turn. My father-in-law’s health began to decline, and he spent several weeks in and out of the hospital. In April, we had to say goodbye to him. It was a difficult time, filled with grief and adjustments. Since then, much of our focus has been on supporting my mother-in-law, spending time with her and helping her adapt to this new chapter of life.
As summer rolled in, Bryan took on a big project: remodeling part of my mother-in-law’s home. We hired a contractor. It was a stressful couple of months, filled with endless follow-ups and inspections. But we’re very happy that the home is now refreshed and comfortable.
In September, we took a much-needed break with a trip to Seattle. It was a perfect mix of catching up with friends at a special event and some work commitments for Bryan. The scenic views and crisp fresh air gave us a moment to recharge. October and November weren’t without their challenges, but we made it through together.
This year has been a slower one for the blog, as life often pulled me in different directions. I tried my very best, but some days just didn’t have room for writing or recipe testing. I hope 2025 will be a brighter year. My goal is to focus on creating more delicious recipes to share with all of you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart with your continued support. Your messages, comments, and encouragement mean more than you know.
Here’s to a bright and beautiful 2025! Wishing you all health, happiness, and joy. Happy New Year!
Here are our 2024 Top 6 Recipes:
6. Paletas de Coco (Mexican Coconut Popsicles) – We ate many Mexican popsicles at my mother-in-law’s home. We got them from street vendors. Now, you can make them at home by whisking a few ingredients together. Easy & creamy!
5. Blueberry Lemon Soda – This soda drink is super refreshing! Start by making a syrup with fresh blueberries and lemon, then just add soda and ice. Perfect for anyone who is looking for something non-alcoholic.
4. Sweet Red Bean Soup with Rice Dumplings – A warm dessert soup is just right for cold winter. Sweet and earthy with chewy glutinous rice dumplings. Excellent for Lunar New Year celebration!
3. Pork with Pickled Mustard Greens Noodle Soup – Comfort noodle soup is the ultimate pick-me-up on a tough day. This dish is packed with flavor and has a perfect balance of everything—meat, vegetables, and starch. It’s a satisfying choice for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
2. Japanese Milk Pudding with Strawberry Sauce – This recipe was inspired by our trip to Japan earlier this year. I love the smooth, milky and creamy pudding with a slightly tart strawberry sauce. Who can resist?
1. Hong Kong Style Fruit Salad with Shrimps – I’m surprised to see this dish as number 1 this year. The flavor combo may not be as common, but I do love this dish. The tanginess of the miracle whip with the fresh fruits and cold sweet shrimps. So good in every way!
BONUS – MY FAVORITE RECIPE OF THE YEAR:
Whisky Caramel Sauce – This copycat recipe takes inspiration from our trip to Seattle. As someone who wasn’t a fan of caramel, this sauce completely changed my perspective. The complex flavors from the whisky make it truly exceptional. I can’t imagine not keeping a jar of it in my fridge at all times.
